These earrings are made using hand-dyed indigo batik (蜡染) fabric sourced in Guizhou, China. The textile is created using a traditional wax-resist dyeing technique, where patterns are drawn with melted wax before the cloth is dyed in indigo.
Small sections of the fabric are carefully selected and cut so that each pair of butterflies carries its own unique pattern. The textile is then set into silver frames and finished with fluid silver tassels.
Because every piece of batik cloth develops differently during the dyeing process, no two pairs are exactly the same.
